We\u2019re seeing products without synthetic dyes, made with plant-based ingredients, that are cruelty-free, and gluten-free. Overall, many shoppers are looking for simple and more minimal ingredient lists with words they understand.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some retailers, like the U.K.\u2019s The Body Shop, devote entire web pages to detailing individual ingredients in products. Another British retailer, Neal\u2019s Yard Remedies, goes a step further and includes sourcing information about ingredients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow aligncenter\" consumers of all ages are adjusting to a health-conscious lifestyle, it\u2019s really the younger generations that are driving it. A recent Branded Research survey shows 37% of U.S. consumers say it\u2019s extremely\/very important to them to purchase natural\/sustainable personal care products, though these products resonate more with younger consumers than older shoppers \u2014 49% of Gen Z, 43% of Millennials, 35% of Gen X and 29% of Baby Boomers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"750\" src=\"https:\/\/rangeme-blog-images.imgix.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Marc-Andre\u0301-Lamy-4.png?auto=format%2Ccompress\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9226\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rangeme-blog-images.imgix.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Marc-Andre\u0301-Lamy-4.png?w=600 600w, https:\/\/rangeme-blog-images.imgix.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Marc-Andre\u0301-Lamy-4.png?w=240 240w, https:\/\/rangeme-blog-images.imgix.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Marc-Andre\u0301-Lamy-4.png?w=300 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These \u201cgreen consumers\u201d are generally willing to cough up for these products. A 2021 Zeitgest survey from GWI revealed that 60% of Internet users in the U.S. and the U.K. are willing to spend more on these products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">May Flanagan, founder of U.K.-based <a href=\"https:\/\/globalgreenfamily.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Global Green Family<\/a>, says that the public is \u201cmore aware of pressing environmental issues and this compels them to become interested in sustainable alternatives to traditional health and beauty products.\u201d However, she says, consumers are having trouble finding these products in mainstream stores. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Natural hits mainstream retailers<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some mainstream retailers are taking notice. Three years ago <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rangeme.com\/sephora\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sephora<\/a> launched the Clean at Sephora seal, to guide consumers towards safe, organic products, free from more than 50 harmful chemicals. And last month it launched the Clean + Plant Positive club featuring 18 brands with rigorous controls including ingredients, climate commitment, sustainable sourcing, packaging responsibly, and environmental giving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sephora\u2019s barking up the right tree. Conversely, what consumers are not looking for is equally important. Shoppers are avoiding products containing parabens (-7%), sodium lauryl sulfate (-6%), and aluminum salt (-9%).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And the products consumers are most interested in? The top trending keywords over the last 3 months with beauty buyers on RangeMe are: tan, razor blades, sun care, shampoo, and beard oil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>From shampoo to deodorant<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rangeme.com\/riteaid\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Rite Aid<\/a>, clean and natural products are growing in all categories, from supplements to haircare to cosmetics, and they\u2019re merchandised together within each category, allowing the customer to \u201cconsider all the product offerings,\u201d says Rite Aid\u2019s spokesperson.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rite Aid uses \u201cFree From\u201d shelf tags to highlight the products, as well as larger manufacturer signs and aisle signs indicating \u201cAll Natural\u201d and \u201cOrganic Health and Beauty.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow aligncenter\" SPINS research from May 2020 to May 2021 shows that natural products are especially growing in haircare (+12%), deodorants and antiperspirants (+29%), and shaving and hair removal (+28%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vegan products are another aspect of the clean\/natural health and beauty trend resonating with consumers as more people eschew health and beauty care items made with animal byproducts. Small brands like Arctic Fox in the U.S. and Bloomtown in the U.K. have vegan products, and even big brands like L\u2019Oreal and Estee Lauder have vegan offerings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The packaging piece<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s not just the ingredients in health and beauty products that are concerning consumers. There\u2019s also the matter of what they\u2019re packaged in. Shoppers are turning to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rangeme.com\/blog\/supplier-spotlight-hibar-connects-with-beauty-buyers-looking-for-eco-friendly-products-on-rangeme\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">bar products such as soap and shampoo<\/a> to avoid plastic bottles, and even powders, which have the water removed, so less packaging is required. Powders are popping up in categories such as masks, shampoos, and toothpaste.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/rangeme-blog-images.imgix.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/HiBar_pack-lineup_1B-copy-scaled.jpg?auto=format%2Ccompress&amp;fit=crop\" alt=\"HiBAR\"\/><figcaption>HiBAR eco-friendly bar shampoos and conditioners<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some companies are already making inroads offering packaging made from plants, biodegradable tubes, refillable packages, and glass.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s not just consumers\u2019 health that\u2019s at stake.
